zinzendorfwesleyrighteousness2-corinthiansmoravianreformationhymn
Count Nicolaus von Zinzendorf, leader of the Moravian Brethren, wrote this doctrinal hymn about imputed righteousness, drawing from 2 Corinthians 5:21 ('God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God') and Isaiah 61:10's image of being clothed in the robe of righteousness. John Wesley translated it into English and sang it during the voyage to Georgia that preceded his Aldersgate conversion. It is a key document of Reformation theology in hymn form.
