Terms of Service

Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Biblexika, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the service.

These terms form a legally binding agreement between you and Biblexika, Zehntenhausstrasse 2, 8046 Zurich, Switzerland (“Biblexika”, “we”, “us”, or “our”).

Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Biblexika. If you are located in the European Union or European Economic Area, you must be at least 16 years old, unless your parent or legal guardian provides verifiable consent on your behalf.

By using the service, you confirm that you meet the applicable age requirement. If we become aware that an account belongs to a user below the minimum age, we will delete that account and its associated data.

If you are accepting these terms on behalf of a company or other legal entity, you represent that you have the authority to bind that entity to these terms.

Service Description

Biblexika is a Bible study platform providing Bible translations, encyclopedia articles, lexicons, devotionals, commentary, study tools, and an AI assistant called Sophi. The service is operated by Biblexika, Zurich, Switzerland.

The service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranty of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

Biblexika is primarily funded through Pro subscriptions. The free tier provides access to the vast majority of content and features. Certain advanced features (including extended access to Sophi AI) require a Pro subscription.

Accounts

You may create a free account to access personalized features such as saved preferences, bookmarks, and reading history. When creating an account, you must provide accurate and complete information.

You may sign in using an email address and password, or via Google or Apple OAuth. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality and security of your account credentials. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account. Biblexika is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to protect your account.

You may not create accounts using automated means, create multiple accounts to circumvent restrictions, or share your account with others.

Free and Pro Plans

Core features of Biblexika, including the Bible Reader, Encyclopedia, and Lexicon, are available free of charge. Biblexika Pro is an optional paid subscription (approximately CHF/USD/EUR 5 per month, or equivalent in your local currency) that provides additional features, primarily extended use of the Sophi AI assistant and advanced reader capabilities.

Pro subscriptions are processed by Stripe, Inc. By subscribing, you also agree to Stripe's terms. You may cancel your subscription at any time from your Settings page. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Refunds are handled in accordance with applicable Swiss consumer protection law and, where applicable, EU consumer protection directives.

Right of Withdrawal

If you are a consumer located in the European Union or European Economic Area, you have the right to withdraw from a Pro subscription contract within 14 days of purchase without giving any reason (the “cooling-off period”).

However, by starting your Pro subscription and accessing Pro features immediately, you expressly request that we begin performing the service before the cooling-off period expires. You acknowledge that you thereby lose your right of withdrawal once the service has been fully performed, or, for ongoing subscriptions, once you have begun using the Pro features. This is consistent with Article 16(m) of EU Directive 2011/83/EU on consumer rights as applied to digital content.

If you have not yet used any Pro features and wish to withdraw within 14 days, please contact us at info@biblexika.com and we will process a full refund.

AI-Generated Content Disclaimer

Biblexika includes Sophi, an AI assistant designed to help users explore and study the Bible. Sophi's responses are generated by an AI model and are intended for informational and study purposes only.

AI-generated content may contain errors, omissions, or outdated interpretations. Sophi is not a substitute for advice from qualified theologians, pastors, or biblical scholars. We strongly encourage users to verify important interpretations with trusted human sources and consult qualified religious or academic professionals for matters of faith, doctrine, or personal guidance.

Biblexika does not endorse any specific theological position expressed in Sophi's responses. Responses may reflect multiple scholarly perspectives and should not be taken as definitive doctrinal statements.

User-Generated Content

Biblexika allows you to create and share content, including personal notes, bookmarks, study group posts, idea submissions, and verse Q&A answers (collectively, “User Content”).

You retain ownership of your User Content. By submitting User Content to Biblexika, you grant Biblexika a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to store, display, and transmit that content solely for the purpose of providing the service to you and other users. This license ends when you delete the content or your account, subject to reasonable technical delays and backup retention periods.

You are solely responsible for the accuracy and legality of your User Content. You represent that you have all necessary rights to submit the content and that it does not violate any third-party rights or applicable law.

We reserve the right to remove or hide User Content that violates these terms or our Community Guidelines, without prior notice. We will make reasonable efforts to notify you when we take such action.

Community Guidelines

Biblexika is designed to be a respectful, inclusive space for Bible study across all backgrounds and traditions. When participating in study groups, Q&A, or any other community feature, you agree to:

  • Treat other users with respect and courtesy, regardless of their beliefs or background.
  • Keep discussions relevant to Bible study and the features of the platform.
  • Not harass, threaten, bully, or intimidate other users.
  • Not post spam, unsolicited promotions, or repetitive content.
  • Not attempt to proselytize other users against their will or pressure them to adopt specific beliefs.
  • Not share illegal content, including content that infringes copyright or promotes illegal activity.
  • Not impersonate other users, scholars, religious figures, or Biblexika staff.
  • Not share personal or private information about other users without their consent.

Repeated or serious violations of these guidelines may result in suspension or permanent termination of your account.

User Conduct

Beyond the Community Guidelines above, you agree not to:

  • Use the service for any unlawful purpose.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems, servers, or databases.
  • Scrape, bulk-download, or systematically extract content from Biblexika for commercial redistribution.
  • Misrepresent Biblexika content as your own work or remove attribution and licensing notices.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the service.
  • Use the service to distribute malware, phishing content, or other harmful code.
  • Circumvent any access controls, rate limits, or account restrictions.

API Usage

Biblexika's internal API endpoints are provided solely to support the Biblexika web and mobile applications. You may not use these endpoints for any other purpose without our express written permission.

Specifically, you agree not to:

  • Access our API endpoints through automated scripts, bots, or crawlers.
  • Use our API to build competing products or services.
  • Exceed any published or enforced rate limits.
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer our data formats or internal APIs.

We reserve the right to rate-limit, block, or terminate access for any user or IP address that we reasonably believe is abusing API access, without prior notice.

Content License

Encyclopedia and lexicon content is based on open-license sources, including works in the public domain and content licensed under Creative Commons CC0 and CC BY 4.0. Attribution is provided where required. A full list of data sources is available on the Data Sources page.

Some content on Biblexika is generated or enriched by AI models. Such content is clearly identified where practicable. AI-generated content is provided for study purposes and does not carry any specific copyright claim by Biblexika beyond the selection, arrangement, and presentation of that content as part of the service.

Bible translation texts sourced from external providers (including public domain translations such as KJV, ASV, and WEB) are used in accordance with their respective licenses. A full list of translations and their licensing is available in the Bible Reader.

Third-Party Services

Biblexika integrates with several third-party services to deliver its features:

  • Stripe for payment processing. Stripe's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply to all payment transactions.
  • Supabase for authentication and database services.
  • External Bible API providers (including getBible and helloao) for supplementary Bible translation data.
  • YouTube for scholarly video references displayed in the Scholar Directory. YouTube content is subject to YouTube's Terms of Service.
  • Google and Apple for OAuth sign-in, subject to their respective terms and privacy policies.

Biblexika is not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or conduct of third-party services. Outages or changes in third-party services may affect the availability of certain Biblexika features without prior notice from us.

Intellectual Property

Biblexika and the Biblexika brand (including logos, design, and trademarks) are the property of Biblexika. All rights not expressly granted in these terms are reserved.

Open-source and public domain data sources used in Biblexika are attributed on the Data Sources page and in the relevant sections of the application.

Data and Privacy

Your use of Biblexika is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms of Service by reference. The Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.

If you are located in the European Union or European Economic Area, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the right to access, correct, export, and delete your personal data. To exercise these rights, please contact us at info@biblexika.com.

You may export your personal data (including notes and bookmarks) from your Settings page at any time.

Availability and Uptime

We aim to provide a reliable service, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free availability. Biblexika may be temporarily unavailable due to scheduled maintenance, unplanned outages, third-party service failures, or circumstances outside our control.

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any feature or part of the service at any time, with or without notice. We will make reasonable efforts to communicate planned maintenance and significant feature changes in advance.

Biblexika can be installed as a Progressive Web App (PWA) for instant home screen access. An internet connection is required to use the service.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by Swiss law, Biblexika, its directors, employees, and affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from or in connection with your use of or inability to use the service.

In no event shall the total liability of Biblexika exceed the amount you have paid to us in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim, or CHF 100, whichever is greater.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable Swiss or EU law.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Biblexika, its directors, employees, contractors, and affiliates from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or relating to: (a) your use of the service in violation of these terms; (b) your User Content; (c) your violation of any applicable law or third-party right; or (d) any dispute between you and another user.

We reserve the right to assume exclusive control of any matter subject to indemnification by you, in which case you agree to cooperate with our defense of that claim.

Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms of Service or our Community Guidelines. We will make reasonable efforts to notify you before taking such action, except where immediate action is required to protect the service or other users.

You may delete your account at any time from your Settings page. Upon deletion, your personal data will be removed in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Some data may be retained for a limited period as required by law or for legitimate business purposes such as fraud prevention.

Sections of these terms that by their nature should survive termination (including intellectual property, limitation of liability, indemnification, and governing law) will remain in effect after your account is closed.

Governing Law

These Terms of Service are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Switzerland, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising from or in connection with these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Zurich, Switzerland.

If you are a consumer in the European Union, you may also be entitled to rely on mandatory consumer protection provisions of your country of residence that cannot be excluded by contract. Nothing in this clause is intended to limit rights you have under applicable EU law.

Severability

If any provision of these Terms of Service is found to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, that provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, or severed if modification is not possible. The remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.

Entire Agreement

These Terms of Service, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Biblexika with respect to your use of Biblexika. They supersede all prior or contemporaneous communications, agreements, or understandings, whether written or oral, relating to the service.

If we fail to enforce any right or provision of these terms, that failure does not constitute a waiver of that right or provision.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Effective date” at the top of this page and, where practicable, notify registered users via email or an in-app notice. Your continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms.

If you do not agree to updated terms, you should stop using Biblexika and may delete your account from the Settings page.
