Abraham's journey from Ur of the Chaldees to the land of Canaan is the founding journey of the biblical story. Called by God to leave his homeland, Abraham traveled over 1,500 miles to the land God promised to his descendants.

Abraham's journey from Ur of the Chaldees to the land of Canaan is the founding journey of the biblical story. Called by God to leave his homeland, Abraham traveled over 1,500 miles to the land God promised to his descendants.

The great Sumerian city-state where Terah's family lived before the call of God. A prosperous urban center on the Euphrates.

Terah led the family to Haran, where they settled. Terah died here at age 205. God renewed his call to Abraham to continue to Canaan.

At the oak of Moreh, God appeared to Abraham and promised the land to his offspring. Abraham built his first altar here.

Abraham pitched his tent between Bethel and Ai, built an altar, and called on the name of the LORD.


A severe famine drove Abraham to Egypt. Pharaoh took Sarah into his household, but God afflicted Pharaoh's house and Sarah was returned. Abraham left wealthy.

Abraham returned from Egypt with great wealth in livestock, silver, and gold.

Abraham returned to his earlier camp between Bethel and Ai and called on the name of the LORD at the altar he had built.

After separating from Lot, God again promised Abraham all the land he could see. Abraham moved to Hebron and settled at the oaks of Mamre, building an altar.

When Lot was taken captive by the four kings, Abraham led 318 trained men northward to Dan, then pursued to Hobah north of Damascus to rescue him.

At the King's Valley (Salem/Jerusalem), Melchizedek king of Salem brought bread and wine and blessed Abraham. Abraham gave him a tithe of everything.

Abraham planted a tamarisk tree here and called on the name of the LORD. After the test of Mount Moriah, Abraham returned to dwell at Beersheba.
