Jehu
Jehu was a descendant of Judah through Obed, as recorded in the genealogy in 1 Chronicles.
Biography
Jehu son of Obed appears in the genealogical records of 1 Chronicles 2:38 as a descendant of Judah through the line of Hezron and Jerahmeel. His lineage traces through Sheshan, who gave his daughter in marriage to his Egyptian servant Jarha, producing Attai, and eventually, through subsequent generations, Jehu himself. Though the genealogy in which he appears extends forward toward the period of the Divided Monarchy, no narrative deeds are attached to this particular Jehu. His inclusion in the Chronicler's careful genealogical record demonstrates that even those without recorded heroic acts were considered part of the covenant community whose lineage mattered to the ongoing story of Israel.
Significance
This Jehu's presence in the Chronicler's genealogy reflects the Bible's consistent affirmation that every individual belongs within a larger story. Chronicles was composed partly to remind the post-exilic community of its unbroken connection to the promises made to Abraham, Judah, and David, and genealogies were the vehicle for that continuity. Even when individuals leave no narrative footprint, their inclusion in the covenant register testifies to God's faithfulness across generations. Jehu's name preserved in Scripture reminds readers that belonging to the people of God is itself a form of significance, independent of dramatic accomplishment.
