Biography

Moza was a son of Caleb, the celebrated Israelite spy and conqueror, born to him through his concubine Ephah, as recorded in 1 Chronicles 2:46. Caleb, renowned for his faithfulness in scouting the Promised Land alongside Joshua (Numbers 13-14), fathered several sons through various wives and concubines, and Moza was part of this extended household. Along with his brothers Haran and Gazez, Moza belonged to the Calebite branch of the tribe of Judah that settled in the southern territories of Israel. The Calebites played an important role in establishing Judahite presence in the Hebron region and surrounding areas, contributing to the fulfillment of God's promise to give Caleb the land his feet had walked upon (Joshua 14:9).

Significance

Moza's genealogical connection to Caleb places him within one of the most celebrated family lines in Israel's history. Caleb's unwavering faith in God's promises, even when the majority report counseled fear, earned him a unique inheritance in the Promised Land. Moza's inclusion in the Calebite genealogy demonstrates the ongoing fruitfulness of that faithful legacy. Though born of a concubine rather than a primary wife, Moza was fully counted among Caleb's recognized descendants, reflecting the inclusive nature of tribal membership in ancient Israel. His presence in Scripture testifies to the enduring impact of one person's faith across subsequent generations.
