Uzziah
Uzziah was in charge of King David's storehouses.
Biography
Uzziah was an official entrusted with the oversight of King David's agricultural storehouses, specifically mentioned in 1 Chronicles 27:25 in connection with the storehouses in the fields, cities, villages, and towers. He is identified as the son of Jonathan and served as one of the twelve administrative officers David appointed to manage the royal estate and resources. This system of stewardship reflected David's concern to organize the kingdom's material resources for the benefit of Israel's military and administrative needs. Uzziah's role placed him within the sophisticated bureaucracy David established, which the Chronicler presents as a model of ordered, God-honoring governance, a preparation for the even greater administration Solomon would later build.
Significance
Uzziah's stewardship of David's storehouses illustrates the biblical principle that faithful management of material resources is itself a form of covenant service. The careful organization of royal property described in 1 Chronicles 27 reflects David's understanding that the kingdom's physical abundance was a trust from God to be administered wisely. Uzziah represents the administrative class whose diligent, often unheralded work supports the broader purposes of God's anointed leadership. His role anticipates the New Testament's emphasis on faithful stewardship (Luke 16:10-12) and the principle that every gift, including organizational ability, is to be used in service of God's kingdom.
