Zichri
Zichri was a son of Izhar and grandson of Kohath, of the tribe of Levi (Exo.6.21).
Biography
Zichri was a son of Izhar and a grandson of Kohath, belonging to one of the most distinguished clans of the tribe of Levi (Exodus 6:21). The Kohathites were entrusted with transporting the most sacred objects of the tabernacle, the ark, the table of showbread, the lampstand, and the altars, and Izhar's family stood within that honored lineage. Zichri's elder brother Korah would become infamous for the rebellion against Moses and Aaron described in Numbers 16, making Zichri a near witness to one of Scripture's most dramatic displays of divine judgment. Though Zichri himself fades from the record, his place in the genealogy of Exodus 6 anchors him within the foundational period of Israel's priestly organization.
Significance
Zichri's genealogical position in Exodus 6 places him at the intersection of Levitical honor and family tragedy. As the brother of Korah, he belongs to a household that produced both rebellion and, through other lines, enduring worship (the sons of Korah, who survived, became celebrated psalmists). This proximity to both faithfulness and catastrophic sin illustrates that heritage alone does not determine a person's standing before God. Zichri's quiet presence in the genealogy serves as a reminder that within every household and generation, the call to covenant faithfulness must be personally embraced rather than passively inherited.
