Allon
Allon was the son of Jedaiah, a descendant of Simeon. (1Ch.4.37)
Biography
Allon was a descendant of Simeon, listed in the genealogy of the tribe of Simeon recorded in 1 Chronicles 4:37. He is identified as the son of Jedaiah and the father of Shiphi, placing him in a line connected to the Simeonite leaders who, during the reign of Hezekiah, led an expansion into the valley of Gedor and also into the territory of the Amalekites in the hill country of Seir (1 Chronicles 4:38–43). Though Allon himself may not have personally led these expeditions, his descendants were among the Simeonite chiefs who sought new pastureland when their own territory became too crowded. This episode of territorial expansion during Hezekiah's era is one of the few narrative details preserved about the tribe of Simeon in the post-conquest period.
Significance
Allon's genealogical placement within the tribe of Simeon carries quiet but real significance. Simeon was the tribe that received no independent territorial allotment but was scattered within Judah (Genesis 49:7; Joshua 19:1–9), a consequence of Simeon and Levi's violent episode at Shechem. Yet the Chronicler documents Simeonite vitality and expansion centuries later during Hezekiah's reign, suggesting that God's judgments do not erase a tribe's story entirely. Allon and his lineage represent the endurance of the covenant community even within a tribe marked by prophetic discipline. Their story testifies that God's purposes for each tribe of Israel continued to unfold across the full sweep of Israel's history.
