Asriel
Identity and Family Line
Asriel was a member of the tribe of Manasseh, one of the two tribes descended from Joseph. He is listed in Numbers 26:31 among the clans of Manasseh during the second census taken by Moses on the plains of Moab before Israel entered the Promised Land. The same passage identifies his descendants as the Asrielites, establishing them as a recognized clan within the tribe.
According to 1 Chronicles 7:14, Asriel was born to Manasseh by an Aramean concubine. This detail places him within the broader pattern of intermarriage between the patriarchal families and neighboring peoples, a practice that was common in the early generations of Israel's history.
