Biography

Bunah was a son of Jerahmeel, the firstborn of Hezron, making him a third-generation descendant of Judah, the fourth son of Jacob. He is mentioned in 1 Chronicles 2:25 among the sons born to Jerahmeel by his first wife. His brothers included Ram, Oren, Ozem, and Ahijah. The genealogical record in which Bunah appears situates him within the broader Judahite clan structure during the era of the United Monarchy. No personal deeds, offices, or narratives are attached to his name in Scripture. Like many individuals preserved in biblical genealogies, Bunah's significance lies not in individual exploits but in his place within the tribal lineage that would ultimately produce the Davidic dynasty.

Significance

Bunah's inclusion in the Jerahmeelite genealogy of 1 Chronicles 2 illustrates the meticulous care with which Israel preserved its tribal records, recognizing in them the concrete expression of God's covenant faithfulness. The genealogies of Judah were not merely administrative records but theological testimony, each name a witness to God's sustaining of the line through which the Messiah would come. Bunah, though personally obscure, was part of that larger family of faith whose collective existence bore witness to God's promises. His story invites reflection on how ordinary lives, faithfully lived within covenant community, contribute to the forward movement of redemptive history.
