A place from which some of the Jewish captives returned with Zerubbabel to Judaea: these "could not show their father's house, nor their seed (pedigree) whether they were of Israel" (Ezr 2:59). ADDON, or AALAR.

International Standard Bible Encyclopedia on Addan

Addan ad'-an ('addan; in Neh 'addon; connected in some way with the name of the god Addu): A name mentioned in the list of the returning exiles (Ezr 2:59, duplicated in Ne 7:61). Hastings' Dictionary of the Bible on Addan

Certain of the inhabitants of this place j'jined the body of the returning exiles in the time of Zerubbabel, but they were unable to prove their true Isr. descent by showing to what treat clan or family they belonged (Ezr 2'*). Prob- ably they were not admitted to the privileges of full citizenship. The name does not appear in the later lists in Ezr 10, Neh 10. Some regard Cherub Addan as one name ; v.™ suggests that Cherub, Addan, and Immer were three villages in one dis- trict in Babylon, from which the family of Nekoda ::ame In Neh 7" the name appears as Addon. H. A. White. ADDAR, 1 Ch 8'.— See Aed. ADDAR, AV Adar (i^x), Jos 15'.— A town on the border of Judah south of Beersheba. Thera is a ruin east of Gaza which bears the name 'Adar, but this seems perhaps too fax west. C. R. CONDEE.

(strong or stony), one of the places from which some of the captivity returned with Zerubbabel to Judea who could not show their pedigree as Israelites. (Ezra 2:59) Called Addon (Nehemiah 7:61)
