Anan
(a cloud), one of the “heads of the people” who signed the covenant with Nehemiah. (Nehemiah 10:26) (B.C. 410.)

1. One of those who sealed tlie covenant, Neh 10". 2. 1 Es5*'=Hanan, Ezr 2«, Neh 1". ANANI {■«Si=n;}JJi).— A son of Elioenai, 1 Ch 3=*. ANANIAH (7^:^^ 'J' hath covered'), Neh 3».— The father of Maaseiah, and grandfather of Azariah, who took i)art in rebuilding the walls of Jems. He was probably a priest. Cf. v."*. ANANIAH (.T])]^ Neh 11«).— A to\vn inhabited by Benjamites after the Captivity. According to Robinson, the present Beit itanina, a vUlage 2 miles N. of Jerusalem.
