Azel a'-zel 'atsel, "noble": ⇒See a list of verses on AZEL in the Bible. (1) A descendant of King Saul, through Jonathan (1Ch 8:37 f; 1Ch 9:43 f). (2) Azel, a'-zel, the King James Version Azal 'atsel; Asael; Zec 14:5): A place not far from Jerusalem. There may be an echo of the name in that of Wady Yasal, to the right of `Ain el-Loz, in Wady en-Nar. ⇒See also the McClintock and Strong Biblical Cyclopedia.

1. A descendant ol Jonathan (1 Ch 8»'*'«=9*'*"). See Genealooy. 2. (AV Azal) The name of an unidentified site in the neighbourhood of Jerus. (Zee 14'), possibly the same as Betb-ezel of Mic 1". J. A. Selbib. AZETAS ('AftjTis), 1 Es 5".— The head of a family which returned with Zerubbabel. There is no corresponding name in the lists of Ezr and Neh. H. St. J. TUACKBRAY.
