A grandson of Esau, Gn 36" (’Qudy); as of the ‘dukes’ of Edom, v.% ('Qudp). Cf. the parallel passage 1 Ch 155 (μάρ). The clan of which he is the eponym has not been identified.

Fausset's Bible Dictionary on Omar

Son of Eliphaz, Esau's firstborn (Gen 36:11-15). Related to the Amir Arabs E. of Jordan, also to amar "to speak," and emir "a chief."
