The Crucifixion
Jesus is crucified at Golgotha between two criminals. He is mocked, offered sour wine, and darkness covers the land. Jesus cries out and dies. The temple curtain is torn in two.

Each Gospel records different last words of Jesus. Matthew and Mark: "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" Luke: "Father, forgive them" and "Today you will be with me in paradise." John: "It is finished." The seven words of Christ on the cross are assembled from all four accounts.

Centurion's confession: "Truly this man was the Son of God."
Jesus forgives his executioners, promises paradise to the penitent thief, and commits his spirit to the Father.
Jesus entrusts his mother to the beloved disciple. "It is finished." Soldiers pierce his side; blood and water flow.
