Matthew alone adds Jesus's argument about priests working in the temple on the Sabbath and the quote from Hosea 6:6 ("I desire mercy, not sacrifice"). Mark includes the line "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath," which Matthew and Luke omit.

Matthew

Adds the temple-priests argument and quotes Hosea 6:6 on mercy over sacrifice.

Mark

Includes "The Sabbath was made for man" before the Son of Man saying.

Luke

Uses the unusual phrase "on a Sabbath" (some manuscripts read "second-first Sabbath"), a textual puzzle scholars still debate.
