Parable of the Wicked Tenants
Tenants of a vineyard beat and kill the owner's servants and finally his son. The owner will destroy the tenants and give the vineyard to others. The religious leaders realize Jesus is speaking against them.

Matthew has the most servants sent (two groups), Mark sends them one by one with escalating violence, and Luke sends three individual servants. Matthew alone has the audience pronounce their own judgment ("He will put those wretches to a miserable death"), while in Mark and Luke, Jesus delivers the verdict himself. All three quote Psalm 118:22 about the rejected stone.
The audience unwittingly condemns themselves; Matthew adds the stone that crushes whoever it falls on.
The owner sends a "beloved son" as a last resort, echoing the baptism and transfiguration voice.
Streamlined version with three servants, each treated worse; the people respond "Surely not!" to Jesus's verdict.
