Matthew names both Pharisees and Sadducees (an unusual alliance) and includes the "sign of Jonah" reference, connecting it to the three days in the belly of the sea creature (12:40). Mark mentions only Pharisees and records Jesus sighing deeply in his spirit, an emotional detail absent from Matthew.
