Atra-Hasis

mesopotamianAkkadianc. 1700 BCE

Akkadian epic of creation and the Great Flood, with direct parallels to Genesis. Recounts the gods' creation of humanity from clay and divine blood to bear their labor, the repeated attempts to reduce human population through plague and drought, and the great deluge survived by Atra-Hasis (the 'exceedingly wise') in a reed boat -- the oldest known comprehensive flood narrative and a key parallel to the biblical account in Genesis 6-9.

Translation: George Smith (1876), with Pinches & Sayce revisions (1880) (Public Domain)
