Hattush
Hattush was a descendant of King Jeconiah (Jehoiachin) of Judah. (1Ch.3.22)
Biography
Hattush appears in the genealogy of 1 Chronicles 3:22 as a descendant of King Jeconiah (also called Jehoiachin), the king of Judah who was carried into Babylonian captivity by Nebuchadnezzar in 597 BC (2 Kings 24:12-15). As a member of the Davidic royal line in the exilic or post-exilic period, Hattush carried the weight of dynastic heritage in a time when no king sat on Jerusalem's throne. The chronicler's careful preservation of these genealogical details reflects the sustained hope within Israel that the Davidic covenant would ultimately be fulfilled, even after the apparent catastrophe of the Babylonian exile.
Significance
Hattush's place in the Davidic genealogy is theologically significant because it demonstrates the survival of the royal line through the darkest period of Israelite history. God's promise to David, that his house and kingdom would endure forever (2 Samuel 7:16), was not annulled by the exile. The chronicler's meticulous recording of post-exilic Davidic descendants like Hattush witnesses to Israel's continuing hope for dynastic restoration. In the broader sweep of Scripture, such genealogical preservation points toward the ultimate fulfillment of the Davidic covenant in Jesus Christ, who is explicitly linked to this royal lineage (Matthew 1:12).
