Hoshea
Hoshea was one of the leaders of the people who signed the covenant led by Nehemiah to follow the Law of God.
Biography
Hoshea was among the lay leaders of Israel who affixed their seals to the solemn covenant renewal document recorded in Nehemiah 10, in which the returned exiles pledged themselves to follow the Law of Moses and to separate from the peoples of the land. This covenant, enacted under the leadership of Nehemiah and Ezra, addressed concrete social and religious failures: intermarriage with foreign peoples, desecration of the Sabbath, and neglect of the temple and its Levitical staff. Hoshea's participation as a signatory placed him among the recognized community leaders who bore public accountability for Israel's renewed commitment to covenantal faithfulness in the difficult decades following the return from Babylon.

Hoshea's act of signing the covenant in Nehemiah 10 captures the essence of the post-exilic community's vocation: deliberate, public, and costly recommitment to the demands of the Mosaic covenant.
