Ziza
Ziza was one of the sons born to King Rehoboam of Judah and his wife Maacah, the granddaughter of Absalom (2Ch.11.20).
Biography
Ziza was a prince of Judah, one of the sons born to King Rehoboam by his favored wife Maacah, the daughter of Absalom (2 Chronicles 11:20). He was thus a grandson of the revered King David through the line of the ill-fated Absalom. Rehoboam is said to have loved Maacah more than any of his other wives and concubines, and he elevated her sons above his other children. Ziza's brothers included Abijah, who would succeed Rehoboam as king, as well as Attai and Shelomith. Though Ziza himself never reigned, his connection to both the Davidic line and the complex politics of Rehoboam's household places him within the turbulent early decades of the Divided Monarchy.
Significance
Ziza's identity as a son of Rehoboam and Maacah situates him within one of the most consequential family lines of the Old Testament. The union of Rehoboam and Maacah, granddaughter of the rebellious Absalom, represents the complicated dynastic politics of Solomon's legacy. While Ziza himself remains a minor figure, his lineage reminds readers of the mixed inheritance David's dynasty carried: both the promises of God and the consequences of human sin. The Chronicler's detailed attention to Rehoboam's sons reflects a broader theological interest in how God sustained the Davidic line through the messy realities of royal succession and family rivalry.
