Allon al'-on ('allon, "oak"): ⇒See a list of verses on ALLON in the Bible. (1) A town in the tribe of Naphtali in northern Palestine (Jos 19:33), according to the King James Version, which follows some Hebrew texts. It is better however to read with the Revised Version (British and American), "oak" ('elon), rather than as proper noun. Smith's Bible Dictionary on Allon
a large strong tree of some description probably an oak. Allon more accurately Elon, a place named among the cities of Naphtali. (Joshua 19:33) Probably the more correct construction is to take it with the following word, i.e., “the oak by Zaanannim. [Elon] Allon BACHUTH (oak of weeping) the tree under which Rebekah’s nurse, Deborah, was buried. (Genesis 35:8) (an oak) a Simeonite, ancestor of Ziza, a prince of his tribe in the reign of Hezekiah (1 Chronicles 4:37) (B.C. 727.)
Fausset's Bible Dictionary on Allon
("oak".) 1. ALLON or ELON, a city of Naphtali (Jos 19:33); others translate "the oak by Zaanaim" or "the oak of the loading of tents" (compare Jdg 4:11), "the plain of Zaanaim the swamp, Ewald by Kedesh." 2. ALLON BACHUTH, "the oak of weeping," namely, for Deborah, Rebekah's nurse: corrupted into Tabor (1Sa 10:3; compare Jdg 4:5).
