Luke's Gospel places the ascension on Easter day, while Acts 1:3 says Jesus appeared over forty days before ascending. This is one of the clearest tensions within Luke's own two-volume work. Mark's longer ending records the ascension in a single sentence. Matthew and John do not narrate an ascension at all.
Jesus is received into heaven and sits at the right hand of God. The disciples go out and preach everywhere.
Jesus blesses them while being carried up. They return to Jerusalem with great joy and are continually in the temple praising God.
