John the Baptist's Question from Prison
From prison, John sends disciples to ask if Jesus is the Coming One. Jesus points to the evidence of his miracles and pronounces John the greatest born of women.

Both Matthew and Luke record this exchange nearly identically, drawing from the Q source. Luke alone adds that Jesus "cured many of diseases and plagues and evil spirits" right before answering, providing a live demonstration to John's messengers.
Follows with an extended reflection on John's role and "the kingdom of heaven suffers violence."
Adds that all the people and tax collectors "justified God" by being baptized by John, while the Pharisees rejected God's purpose.
