Matthew names both Pharisees and Sadducees (an unusual alliance) and includes the "sign of Jonah" reference, connecting it to the three days in the belly of the sea creature (12:40). Mark mentions only Pharisees and records Jesus sighing deeply in his spirit, an emotional detail absent from Matthew.
Includes the "sign of Jonah" explanation and Jesus's rebuke about reading the sky but not the signs of the times.
Notes Jesus "sighed deeply in his spirit" at their demand; no sign at all will be given to this generation.
The bulk of Jesus's public work centered in Galilee: calling of the Twelve, the Sermon on the Mount, parables, miracles, and growing opposition.
