Scripture from the Berean Standard Bible (BSB), public domain.

Mark places this scene immediately after the Beelzebul controversy, implying Jesus's family came because they thought he was "out of his mind" (3:21). Matthew and Luke omit that motivation. Luke softens the apparent tension by rewording the conclusion to emphasize hearing and doing God's word.

Matthew

Jesus gestures toward his disciples and calls them his family.

Mark

Part of the Markan sandwich; the family's arrival bookends the Beelzebul accusation, with the implication they thought Jesus was insane.

Luke

Reframes the saying positively: "My mother and brothers are those who hear the word of God and do it."
