The woes appear in different contexts: Matthew places them amid reflections on John the Baptist and rejection, while Luke inserts them into the mission charge to the seventy-two. Matthew alone follows the woes with the "Come to me, all who labor" invitation, one of the most-loved passages in the Gospel.
