Many scholars believe this is a separate event from the feeding of the five thousand, not a doublet, because both Matthew and Mark record both feedings and Jesus later refers to both distinctly (Matthew 16:9-10, Mark 8:19-20). The location in Gentile territory (Decapolis) suggests this may symbolize Jesus's ministry extending to non-Jews.
