Song of SolomonChapter 2
Song of Solomon Chapter 2: Meaning
The young woman and her beloved praise each other, and he calls her to come away because spring has arrived.
Summary
The young woman calls herself a wildflower growing in the field. Her beloved says she is like a beautiful flower among weeds, she stands out from everyone around her. She says being with him is like resting under a shady apple tree on a hot day, sweet and safe.
He brought her to a special place, like a great feast, and she felt completely loved there. She says she is lovesick, she wants to be close to him. She asks not to be interrupted while she rests in his arms.
Then the young man arrives, leaping over the hills like a gazelle. He stands outside and calls to her. He tells her that winter is over, the rain has stopped, and flowers are blooming everywhere. Birds are singing, and the fig trees have their fruit. He asks her to come away with him and enjoy the beautiful season together. The chapter ends with her saying she belongs to him, just as he belongs to her.

The poem was likely shared at weddings and celebrations. The images of vineyards, fig trees, and birds were things people in ancient Israel saw every day. Using these familiar images helped show how wonderful and natural love is.
